Promoting talent: TU Clausthal awards Germany Scholarships
35 students have been honored with the Deutschlandstipendium for their academic and social achievements. The scholarship is supported by numerous companies and private individuals.
The Deutschlandstipendium has established itself at Clausthal University of Technology. "When we first awarded this prize seven years ago, we had 13 scholarship holders. We now regularly award around 30 certificates," said Prof. Gunther Brenner, the Presidential Board's representative for the Deutschlandstipendium. More than 50 students and sponsors met at the Clausthal Center for Materials Technology (CZM) for the presentation of the certificates.
"The scholarship holders can be proud of this support," emphasized Prof. Brenner. The award, which is based on an initiative of the German government, honors outstanding achievements and social commitment during studies. "In the current round," informed Andrea Langhorst, who organized the award ceremony on behalf of Clausthal University of Technology, "35 students are being supported." They were selected by a committee involving the Study Center headed by Dr. Georg Ebertshäuser.
The total funding per scholarship amounts to 3,600 euros
The Deutschlandstipendium runs for one year. Scholarship holders receive 300 euros per month, i.e. a total of 3,600 euros. The special feature of this scholarship is the mixed funding. One half is paid by the federal government, the other half is raised by TU Clausthal from companies or private individuals, associations, societies and foundations. The private sector can also contribute smaller individual amounts starting at 150 euros.
At the presentation of the certificates in the foyer of the CZM, both the scholarship holders and the sponsors had the opportunity to say a few words. Dr. Sebastian Röthele reported on the long-standing ties between Sympatec GmbH and Clausthal University of Technology. A large proportion of the company's employees had been trained at the university in the Harz region. TÜV Hannover/Sachsen-Anhalt, which also sees the promotion of talent as its task, supports five students.
The ceremony was accompanied by music from the four-piece saxophone ensemble of the TU Big Band. After the handover, there was the opportunity to visit the Center for Materials Technology and to exchange ideas between scholarship holders and sponsors over a snack and drinks.
For the next funding period, TU Clausthal is again asking interested sponsors to support the scholarship financially. Donors will receive a corresponding certificate and will be listed on the university's homepage with their consent. The contact person is Andrea Langhorst (Alumni Management, .
