Use of the library

How to search and find literature in the university library

Clausthal University Library offers training courses several times a year, which are also open to interested alumni. The training consists of 4 modules (each lasting approx. 90 minutes):

Module 1 - Library catalogs and interlibrary loan
This module explains how to search library catalogs using the Clausthal University Library's online catalog, the North German union catalog GVK and the metacatalog KVK. You will also learn where and how to borrow the literature you have found. Practical exercises reinforce what you have learned.

Module 2 - Electronic journals:
The fastest way to full text: electronic journals make it possible. This course will teach you where and how to search for electronic journals efficiently and deepen your knowledge through exercises

Module 3 - Specialist databases and more:
The focus is on the possibilities of searching for literature and facts in databases. The database information system DBIS and the databases licensed for the TU are presented. You will also get an overview of subject portals and virtual subject libraries.

Module 4 - Managing and citing literature:
The reference management program Citavi will be introduced. How is literature for a scientific paper entered there, imported from databases and managed? How are citations inserted directly into a Word document in the desired formatting? And how is a bibliography created automatically? At the end of this course you will know more.
