High-ranking visitor from China: Alumnus visits TU
The President of Clausthal University of Technology, Professor Thomas Hanschke, was visibly delighted to receive his counterpart from the renowned Beihang University in Beijing, Professor Xu Huibin.
Professor Xu Huibin is an alumnus of Clausthal University and also the first chairman of the Chinese Alumni Association (VCAC). During his stay in Europe at the end of July 2017, he also visited his alma mater and found out about the latest developments at the TU. In a relaxed atmosphere, which was also attended by the university's alumni management, Xu Huibin spoke about his time as a student in Clausthal, which he has fond memories of. Professor Xu graduated from the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering in 1987. Since then, he has kept in touch with the university and has not forgotten the German language. He said that he was unable to find good Chinese cuisine in the Harz Mountains at the time - restaurant visits were not affordable for a student anyway - and so he quickly learned how to cook and prepare Chinese food in Clausthal. He was delighted to learn via smartphone during his visit that Beihang University was ranked eighth among the most sought-after universities in China in this year's Gaokao (Chinese university entrance examination). The president and his delegation traveled on to London the same day. (Photo: Andrea Langhorst)

2016: Foundation of the Southwest Group of the Association of Chinese Alumni of Clausthal University of Technology
The Southwest Group of the Association of Chinese Alumni of Clausthal University of Technology was founded in Chengdu during the 2016 trip to China by the President of Clausthal University of Technology, Prof. Thomas Hanschke. As part of this trip, the President visited Sichuan University in Chengdu as well as the University of Architecture and Technology (XAUAT) in Xi'an. There was cause for celebration at both universities. XAUAT, which was headed for 15 years by Professor Xu Delong - a former Clausthal graduate - has been in existence for 60 years. Sichuan University, which has an impressive 70,000 students, celebrated its 120th birthday. It is headed by Professor Heping Xie, an honorary doctor from Clausthal. "We cultivated contacts with many alumni, concluded numerous cooperation agreements and forged lots of ideas for future projects," said Professor Hanschke, delighted with a successful trip to China. Hardly any other university in Germany is as well connected with the world's most populous country as Clausthal University of Technology. More than 500 young Chinese have been studying in the Harz Mountains for many years; and for more than a decade, the university management of the TU has regularly traveled to the People's Republic with delegations in order to expand relations. 2016: China's Research Minister Wan Gang - TU alumnus - is appointed honorary professor
In April 2016, the Minister of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, Professor Wan Gang, was appointed honorary professor at Clausthal University of Technology in the Aula Academica. The minister is an alumnus of the university and received his doctorate in the Harz Mountains in 1991.
"I feel very honored to have been appointed honorary professor at my mother school - as we say in China," emphasized Minister Wan. He called Clausthal University of Technology "my home". He was also touched by the conversations he had with former colleagues at the Institute of Mechanical Engineering before the ceremony. "I received the ability and the way of working to produce innovations in Clausthal," said the automotive engineer, paying tribute to his training in the Upper Harz Mountains. Professor Wan pointed out that ten Chinese graduates of the TU are now heads of universities in their home country and even hold more than 20 leading positions in associations or companies. More
